Surprisingly well made for MAK!

This is a simple mini guillotine effect that is surprizingly well made for MAK. There are a few glue marks near the base – shades of NIck "Glue Master" de Palma, but otherwise a very well priced mini guillotine.

The problem with this mini version, as with the large 7 foot stage one is that I’m not sure how convincing it is. What you really want is a Guillotine designed where the blade tips are at the outside of the stocks too, and you see it fall through the finger. Then it would be a lot more convincing.

But played for laughs you can still have fun with this … and for the price its a bargain.

Amusing anecdotes and great Kid Show Advice

This is the second book I’ve read by Frances Ireland (Marshall) written in 1952. It’s not as informative or detailed as her other one, You Don’t Have To Be Crazy, but it still makes for interesting, light reading.

It has many anecdotes of famous and not so famous magicians which help you relive the past golden years of magic. I don’t know if such things continue to happen as the magic community has been watered down over the last twenty years or so but I hope there are similar parallels today.

Of particular interest is the section on the Chicago Magic Bar scene which gives a glimpse into a world that I certainly have never experienced and would like to.

Also, there is a very helpful section on performing to kids. This section is certainly filled with the real meat and potatoes for performing to children and is worth checking out if you plan on performing to this difficult, but rewarding, age group.

Overall a worthwhile relaxing read, from one of the most wonderful ladies in Magic.

Not up to Joe’s usual Standards!

I really like the paddles and other machined props of Joe Porper and was looking forward to receiving this new effect.

Unfortunately I think this paddle is not as well produced as his other paddles and is really quite hard to do convincingly. It is a great idea for a routine with a paddle, but to pull it off is going to take a good deal of practice and skill.

The cards seem somewhat squashed and the back card has a real risk of slipping. The paddle move itself is difficult because you have to be very wary of your angles.

If you collect Joe’s paddles I’m sure you’ll still want this one because it clearly is different from other paddle effects, but I just don’t think the production and practicallity of this one is quite there.

Not Actually an RnT Product but Nice

This effect was actually released by John Snyder, who joined Rings ‘n Things toward the end of their reign as kings of aluminum, brass and copper products.

It was released by RnT in their latter years (1977-80 or so — the company disbanded in ’80), under the auspices of Snyder — who eventually caused the downfall of Rings ‘n Things.

This was the only plastic item RnT ever sold.

A good effect using a Stripper deck.

A card is selected, placed back in the deck, which is shuffled by the victim, and placed into a plexiglass houlette with a perspex rod running through it.

The rod is flicked out and the deck falls the rest of the way into the houlette.

One card remains above the deck.

Of course it’s the chosen card.

Nicely made and an interesting use of a Stripper deck.

Good idea, so-so construction

I don’t buy much Tenyo, but everyy so often they come up with something that makes me buy it just to find out the secret, in the event I decide to re-create the item in higher quality for personal use. When I read the description of this I sort of guessed how it worked, and I was correct in the basic modus, but the attention to detail included a couple well thought out ideas to make it operate smoothly. It’s a cute little toy. I wouldn’t perform it, but only because the head is plastic/phony looking, and the head is something a spectator would want to handle, which they should not be allowed to do.

If you like toys, buy it, it’s worth it.

Switch or Scam, your choice

While the method behind the switch is somewhat clever, it is highly overpriced, many places, selling for $30. This is ridiculous for what the unit is. If you really are uncomfortable with switching a deck another way, here’s a way to do it right in front of the spect. In my opinion, save your money and use an organized pocket

Ok prop but presentation is key

I bought this watch many years ago and returned it. The watch itself is no match for a real antique pocket watch and the method used to accomplish the effect proved, in my opinion, rather disappointing. I guess I expected some fancy mechanical marvel. I suggest you save your money and invest in a Richard Gerlitz Prediction Watch, but if this is out of your price range, the Geneva watch is better than nothing. With a strong presentation, it should be entertaining.

Cute pocket trick or puzzler?

This is a nice piece…well done but the effect is more of a puzzle or challenge than a magical effect. The effect is that the dice appears trapped in the closed box and can not be turned, yet the magician is able to accomplish with ease. The accompanying patter is good but I would recommend the CW Loaded Dice if you want a nice dice trick.
