Falling into "True Love"!

We’ll… it looks like Andy and George have said it all! This is a masterpiece… and works like a charm. I have always said that the Gerlitz "Butterfly Boxes" were #1… but the more I play with the new Gerlitz "True Love"… that more I fall in love and is fast becoming my favorite! Of all the collectibles to look at and perform… this one outweighs them all!

Comedy and Quality!

If you are familiar with the books published by Todd Karr’s Miracle Factory then you will not be surprised by the quality of this effect from Black Rabbit Magic. Black Rabbit Magic is a division of Miracle Factory and I hope that this first effect out of their stable is just one of many. The paintings are beautiful, the instruction booklet is clear and very well produced and the portfolio brings it all together. This is very much a quality job from start to finish. For this particular effect having such a good production really helps sell it.

Now of course where would we be without some Comedy too? The standard McCombical Deck has always been a riot in the right hands, and this effect has all the same potential as the normal deck. It is perfect for stage as the size of the paintings is a whopping 11×14 inches. One of the things that makes this play so well is that due to the classy production of the props the audience is more likely to believe that the Magician has actually made a mistake, which of course makes the climax so much more fun!

The method is different from the standard McCombical Deck, and works really well. Set-up is a snap and you’re always ready to pull out the portfolio. Due to the size of the paintings this is best suited for parlour or stage work as opposed to close-up.

If you want to add some class and comedy to your act then this is certainly the prop for you!

My favorite Mind Blowing Card Effect!

When Paul Richard’s over at Elmwood Magic first told me about Doc Dixon’s effect: Carpe Cajones, I was very impressed. The idea was one of the best I had ever heard of, very clever – but so simple too! Unfortunately, I got hung up on the mechanics a bit, and it took me some time to really come to terms with how easy it really was.

After, more coaching from Paul and rereading the effect in Doc Dixon’s amazing book: Everything is Funnier with Monkeys, it finally dawned on me that I was way too worried about the one move that is needed. Once, I changed my performance to account for this, everything fell into place. Now, this is easily my favorite card effect and it is so mind blowing it hurts. The effect becomes almost self-working if you use Jerry O’Connell’s No-Palm Wallet, which is a wonderful utility item too!

The basic effect is one of a triple prediction but it is so strong and clean you really will believe in miracles. The idea also has very real potential to be used for other types of predictions. If you like things like Paul Harris’s Deep Astonishment you really will love Carpe Cajones.

Carpe Cajones – not just a great name – an incredible reputation making miracle! Highly, Highly, Recommended!

Beautiful execution of a functional prop!

I recently bought the Cleveland Drawer & Hanover Watch boxes based solely on the descriptions I saw on Martin Breese’s site-I really wasn’t sure what to expect.

Of both pieces, I can affirm that the workmanship is absolutely flawless.

I have visited the best craft and art exhibits over the years and have been an admirer of fine woodworkers. I had always hoped that more of these individuals would turn their hands to magic props. Well, Martin Breese deserves the credit for finding such a craftsman and guiding him to make pieces that are valuable both for their function and their appearance.

I look forward to following what this team next produces and (with my wife’s permission) adding it to my collection.

Beautifully turned magical heirloom

Colin Rose has released a series of "old fashioned" magic apparatus under his Victorian Collection banner with the intricacies and artistic appeal of a long forgotten era where attention to details by the craftsmen of the time made these items museum quality pieces to be cherished over generations. This is a lost art as it requires skill and patience.

The Coin Vase is probably his best effort for the price. It’s based on the ball vase method, but done with a coin. No instructions are included as the apparatus is open to the performer’s imagination.

It’s really a beautiful hand turned vase made from African Blackwood with white bone accents and protected in an English Oak chest that is a beauty in itself to match the apparatus inside. The only woodwork of this quality that I have seen is the very, and I mean very, expensive special handturned items from Owen Magic.

People will believe you sold your soul

I have a leaning to bizarre magic and this effect when played, as real fortune telling will have your sitter believing you have powers from the dark side. I find its better to use a center tear at the beginning to obtain the name and use some verbal subterfuge to keep the name short.
Most regular magicians will totally dismiss this effect and claim the method will be obvious, this is a good thing because this effect will go in most peoples magic drawer, leaving the few that use it to blow people away. I believe the reason for this is because masking the dirty stuff does not require slight of hand but an ability to act.
Highly recommended.

Most beautiful version of this effect

Howard Hale of Woodmagic made beautiful magic items from wood. His premier chop cup made with padauk, wenge, zebrawood and red oak is truly a beauty. His Clear Deception is no exception. This is a well known and popular effect. The method is a classic and works very well for the illusion of the plate penetrating the threaded string. I had Howard make me a custom version of this prop, made with rosewood for the base and black ebony for the uprights; the cross bar is red oak. Unfortunately, I hear Woodmagic is no longer around and these pieces are now true collectibles.

Buy this item!!
what more can i say, for an opener it gets no better, you walk up to a table and say nothing the boards do all the work for you, this is so different to the usual ‘pick a card’
some very funny moment thanks to the boards.

and just when the specs are thinking ‘oh what a nice gentle trick’ they are hit by one of the best revelations of a selected card, they laugh they applaude then they remember the whold trick and say to themselves ‘Oh it all makes sence now’

also you get a dvd which is well put together and covers everything’

a side point this can be a different selection each time!!

i love this because it is so different.

What a Pretty and Clever Effect!

This is one of the early Collector’s Workshop items that is often overlooked. You can still get it today and you should! When you see the price you will be even more excited to get one as it is great value too!

Briefly the effect is this: You show five brass napkin rings each with a different colored silk passing through. You take each brass ring and remove the silk and place it in a supplied blue bag. As you remove each silk you can clearly show the brass ring is empty and you assemble each ring together to form a tube. The tube remains in full view all the time. Then, you have a silk freely selected from the bag and this silk vanishes leaving just the other 4 silks. You now turn to the tube and push a wand or pen or similar and the chosen, vanished silk pops out from the end of the tube.

This is very easy to do and nothing is added or taken away. You will be delighted with the way the gimiick works so well.

I really like this hidden gem and I think you will too.

Highly recommended!
