The Perfect Dice!

So in the early 90’s Gary Kurtz spoiled us all with an amazing routine called Psycho Kinetic Dice. It used a specially gaffed set of dice and is very tricky to find these days. Over the years others have created the same gaffed dice – notably Soren Harbo of Labco and even Magic Wagon had a set last year using tiny dice.

But when you look at these dice they are perfect. High quality, flawless, standard size, with perfect balance. None of the dice I have seen, including Gary’s original ones, are as well made as these. Throw in the brightly colored porcelain cup and you have a perfect little miracle. You can use the dice to force any number or you can do a 3 way prediction if you get three cups or other containers.

A wonderful utility item with many uses and all very open and clean. I’m excited to see what those cats at Magic Wagon will produce over the next year, as they have certainly come out of the gate with all guns blasting!

Still the King!

George Robinson continues to surprise me. When I received my first original CW version of Creation back in 2002 I thought it was an amazing effect and a collector’s dream: very clever mechanism, small, no reset, and absolutely stunning impact on the audience. This new version is all of that and more. George has gone to the trouble to plate the cage in 24K gold so now none of the solder marks can be seen and the cage now really looks stunning.

I have found over the last couple of years that I have re-bought a number of effects and in many cases have been happier with the newer version. When it comes to Collector’s Workshop, every single piece that George has rebuilt has been better than the original. This jewel of the whole CW line is more incredible than ever. I know George has limited supplies so I suggest you stampede over to his site to get this beautiful Creation. If you ever want to see the look of utter disbelief on a spectator this is certainly one way to achieve it.

An Impossible Miracle!

I have just a received a couple of Tora Magic items and I must say how impressed I am with their quality and effectiveness. This particular item is really amazing because no matter how often you show the tube empty there are always more boxes of flowers to be produced. In the end you produce 12 boxes and without any body loads or other madness.

Three is cool, six is amazing, nine is unbelievable and twelve? Well twelve is real magic!

The tube is very well made and can be shown from all sides and all angles and yet at any instant you can produce another flower box. The display at the end really fills the table and yet it all packs away neatly in the tube.

The flowers are high quality too, with leather backs and with some care will last a lifetime.

I’m keen to try out a few more of Tora’s line as this experience was so positive.

Highly Recommended for stage and parlor performers – dump the big production boxes, and use this compact unit for a much more impressive display!

A Beautiful Rendition of this Classic

I have seen other versions of this classic effect, but none that work as well or look as beautiful as this one from Dave Powell. Boy does Dave know how to produce the classics? He’ll often add a little twist here or there and they all work so smoothly.

Beautiful AND Amazing!

I think that Dave Powell does not get enough praise for some of his amazing wood creations. This box is beautiful to look at and works flawlessly. The method is not new but the box hides the gimmick so well and it is so clean that you just can’t help but love it. His work is right up there with Mel Babcock and it is always a pleasure opening up a package from Dave.

The Best Street and Close-up Table!

J.C. Wagner, who sadly passed away in August 2010, is remembered mostly for his bar and close-up magic. However, he was a great craftsman too as is attested by this perfect table he built. I don’t know how many he made or if he made other items like this, but I love this table!

It opens and closes in an instant. No catches, screws or fasteners – one second it is open the next it is closed so it is perfect for walk-around and street magic. It is very solid and has a large performing area. It looks beautiful made from oak with brass corners, yet it is also very practical and will take all sorts of beating. When closed the top of the legs form a handle which makes it incredibly easy to carry around. It has a large load hidden servante which is perfect for loads and vanishes.

The thing that amazes me most is how strong and solid the table is once opened. Typically these portable tables are pretty fragile – not so with this table it is really solid.

I’ve been looking for a table that I can use for small close-up performances with 4-6 people and this fits the bill perfectly. Thank-you J.C.!

The Most Beautiful Comedy Table Ever!

When Howard Hale first put this table out in 2001 I received #1 from Stevens Magic after a very long wait. Sadly I sold it back in 2007 never thinking I’d get another one. Well now I have #2 and it is even better than #1. It is a stunning looking table and when you want that huge belly laugh at the end of your multiplying bottles routine, this is the way to go!

Howard Hale made some truly beautiful magic, and this item had to be the pinnacle of his line. It is very sad that he stopped making magic. But I for one am very pleased to have this piece back in my collection.

I don’t know how many were made, at least two but probably not many more as I remember I had to wait months for #1.

Mel is Back!

It is always a great treat when I get a package from Mel Babcock and this weekend I received two wonderful items from him. The first is what looks like one of his beautiful Die Boxes and it is but with one difference: you start with a mixed up Rubik cube (aren’t they all?) and you finish with a completed cube, instead of it vanishing elsewhere.

The idea is from Bob Meigs and Mel has crafted it with his usual impeccable style. During the routine as the cube is tipped back and forth the doors are opened and you see how it has been solved a little more each time.It is a real beauty.
