Wow this is Genius!

Lubor Fiedler really has invented some amazingly clever items – this one is no exception. You can repeatedly divine what number shows on top of the die, even though there is no way you can see through the box that holds it. Everything can be minutely examined and nothing is added or taken away.

I really like this one!

Real Quality

For quite awhile I’ve been intrigued by the descriptions of LabcoMagic’s products on the Stevens Magic website. I considered ordering one of these items many times. Concerned about such a large investment, I checked for any feedback on the Magic Cafe. I waited in vain for Andy Martin to review one of these products on this fantastic website. Needless to say…I was thrilled when Soren Harbo of Labco emailed me to tell me I was chosen as the winner of his contest. Simply by subscribing to his mailing list, I was selected and given the opportunity to choose ANY of his products as my prize (free).

Well…Mental Dice arrived yesterday and it’s absolutely incredible. In every way, it exceeded my already high expectations. First, it comes in a sturdy storage box ideal for transporting to performances. The wood dice and box are expertly crafted with no hint of the underlying device. The electronics are unbelievable. For instance, the receiver lets you know the actual voltage remaining in the batteries of both it & the box every time the unit is turned on. The transmission range is excellent. While I’ve only played with it for a day, my impression is that this will be a very reliable prop. I have been collecting some of the finest props around-both vintage and new (Owen, Anverdi, Milson Worth, Alan Warner, Mel Babcock, & Viking/Collector’s Workshop) and this ranks right up with the best items made by those craftsmen.

I know that this type of prop is not for everyone. There are those who seem to feel electronics take the art out of magic. As someone who spent most of my life performing with a deck of cards, I understand these views. Yet, as I read Jim Steinmeyer’s Hiding the Elephant, it is clear to me that historically the greatest magicians used whatever technology was available to them to produce a wonderful performance. Personally, I look forward to adding more LabcoMagic pieces to my collection as soon as my budget (and my wife) permits.

So Beautiful and so Perfect!

Wow! This truly is the most reliable and beautiful electronic effect I have had the pleasure of owning. I have always heard great things about Soren Harbo of Labco Magic, but have only owned a couple of his cheaper items (which are still great of course). Recently, I picked this bad boy up from the expert Ebayer John Mendoza, and I must say how absolutely beautiful and perfect this item is.

The electronics are flawless and 100% hidden. To all intents and purposes you are just dealing with two beautiful (and large!) dice and a beautifully inlayed box. The basic effect is as follows: you show the two dice (one black and one white) and an empty wooden box. You turn your back or leave the room, and have the spectator choose either die and place it with any number facing on top. They put the lid on and place the other die in a small bag. Both items could be hidden from view as you never need to see or touch the box or die again. But immediately you can not only detect which die is in the box, but which number is on top. The range is amazing too 45-60 feet!

If you add to this effect Larry Becker’s wonderful Versadex Wallet you can show your wallet with a prediction before you start, leave it in full view all the time, and hand them the wallet to take the prediction when you are done and it can show the color and number. Now that is amazing magic!

Finally, Another Marcelo Contento!

So everyone knows that the Marcelo Contento Card Fountain is the Gold Standard when it comes to card fountains. Sadly, the regular size ones have not been available for a number of years.

The good news is that this new one from Hey Presto in Australia is as good as the Contento one. Yes I believe it really is as good. In fact, the remote mechanism is actually better than the Contento one as it is integrated into the actual unit – with the Contento one it was an add on.

So now you know where to go to get a really high quality Card Fountain. Of course is you are looking for a Jumbo size there is still only one option: the Marcelo Contento one!

Still the One To Beat!

When it comes to card Fountains Marcelo Contento has been producing the best for years. Unfortunately, he stopped making the regular size a few years ago. However, this Jumbo version (that actually comes with an attachment for regular cards) is still an amazing piece of equipment.

The electronics are beautiful and the power from this thing totally amazing! You must not put your arm in the path of the cards as you would most likely really cut your arm up. It is so powerful. My office has 12 foot ceilings and the cards fly up there from the floor with plenty of power!

The nice thing about this Jumbo version is that the battery is rechargeable. Naturally because it is designed for Jumbo cards this unit is quite big. I think this is most suited for stage performances where you really need to fill the stage with flying cards!

This is clearly way ahead of any other Jumbo card fountain.

Highly Recommened!

Instant Classic

Maybe I’m going out on a limb here, but it seems to me that we are seeing Magic Wagon become one of the classic magic manufacturers of our age. They don’t seem to miss a beat when it comes to creating timeless, first-rate effects in both quality and concept.

The Chao Phraya Chest is another release from Magic Wagon that defies description regarding the effort that went into creating this piece. The effect is a simple coin to impossible location, but the method is seamless and flawless, and the chest is a work of art. Your audience will feel special just looking at the wonderful workmanship and finish. I shouldn’t go on too much about the craftsmanship for fear of overshadowing the effect…which is excellent. Because you don’t need to concentrate on loading the signed coin since the operation is so easy, you can put your energy where it should be…into your performance. And the beauty of the box lends itself to creating a story about its history and how you acquired it. It is just too beautiful not to talk about.

Buy this effect. Use this effect. Enjoy this effect…your audience definitely will.

Solid Magic

Don’t presume that you know how this effect works. The trick is familiar but the method is not.

I’m a big fan of Joe Porper’s craftsmanship and creativity, but have steered away from some of his more ambitious efforts due to their prices. This was an exception however, after I saw a dealer demonstrate this effect at a recent convention. He used it as a typical ring box, but the effect was amplified ten fold due to the solid metal construction of the container. That sturdiness coupled with the fact that the dealer allowed me to examine it afterward, sold me on the box. It simply didn’t operate in the same way as other ring boxes did. I couldn’t figure it out.

You’ll love this prop. Use it like a ring box, or follow the excellent Poor Man’s Safe routine that it comes with. Either way, you’ll have an unusual box with an uncommon secret, that will enable you to perform some extraordinary effects.

Something to Talk About

Did you ever want to be able to present an effect that will leave people with something to talk about? This is that effect.

Dean’s Box is simply a box, which is why it is so provocative. Its simplicity is its greatest strength. The design of the box, the finish of the box, even the size of the box all coalesce into a kind of magic Gestalt that becomes almost mystical. You have to witness a performance to believe it.

I liken this effect to a spirit cabinet. The performer presents a container but never explains what’s inside. He proceeds to take two ordinary ropes…and they are…and place them into each end of the cabinet and out through the top. For a moment he covers them. When he releases them they are linked. He does this once more under even more impossible conditions and they join again. As a climax a solid brass ring is introduced…and it is solid. One of the two ropes is freely chosen and thread through the holes in the box. The ring is thrown inside. When the front of the box is opened the ring is now on the rope. Solid through solid, not once, not twice, but three times under ever increasingly impossible conditions.

Are spirits at work, or just great magic? That’s the beauty of Dean’s Box, it can be presented either way. This effect may seem like just a box, but it contains so much more. It won’t leave them talking, it will leave them speechless.

Rich Magic

If only making money were this easy. Making magic certainly is. This trick simply looks like real magic. Even if you’re performing for yourself in front of a mirror, it will fool you.

Viking pulled out the stops on this one and did a great job of emulating the original prop. The piece really feels like something both utilitarian and magical, as if you actually did own a magical money maker. Is there a down side? Yes. It’s a one shot trick that will need quite a bit of story telling to turn into more than just a novelty effect. But with some creativity, it could be used in conjunction with other money magic as a strong opener or closer.

The Delben Blotter is not inexpensive, but it’s worth it. In this case you have to spend money to make money.
