Acrobatic Fish

This is a wonderful "sucker" type of an effect. I’ve been using it to open my "pirate" themed shows for years, but it works well for all my shows. The effect has you show a fish on a pole that is dangling from a rope, and two other ropes are dangling from the pole as well. You state the fish will jump to another rope and you do it the first couple times by turning the pole around behind your back. the audience sees what your are doing and they go wild. The final time, when everyone thinks they know how it’s done, the fish "jumps" to the middle fishing line. Just when everyone is reacting to the "sucker" moment the kicker ending has 3 fish appear each on the end of each string. This effect is a version of the "monkey bar" trick and is also available with silks.

The Acrobatic Fish is a well built prop. the fish are bright and shiny and the tube is strong and has a shiny reflective strip on it. I’ve performed it for very large groups and everyone has a clear view of the fish and the pole. Many other effects of this nature are not so visible. After touring with this prop I’ve found keeping a role of double sided sticky tape handy is helpful. After a few heavy summers of 2-3 shows a day sometimes the fish’s googly eyes fall off, or the plugs at the end of the tubes come unstuck. This is from heavy use though, and is not a reflection of the well built prop itself.

Very bright, visible prop
Well built, and easily repaired if necessary
Fish theme makes patter lines easy

Hard to keep a good Knife Guy Down!

Joe Mogar continues to impress me with his beautiful and and practical knife sets. These beauties are hot off the press and they are a subtle combination of Koa Wood and Mother of Pearl. As much as I love his brightly colored knives I think the more muted exotic ones look more realistic for regular performance. So these bad boys are perfect.

If you’re looking for the best knives available today look no further than Joe Mogar – he always delivers!

Perfect Close-up Illusion

Wow those Magic Wagon guys are back again and this time with a beautiful close-up illusion. As with all of their magic it is made perfectly. In effect you cleanly build a wooden triangle right in front of their eyes and from the middle pull a (very) heavy mini dragon statue.

This item is actually much better than Magic Wagon know themselves – they over thought it I believe when they came up with the gimmick and routine – and in fact you can achieve a much cleaner illusion by dropping a couple of steps they say in the instructions. Nothing hard but with a little thought you can make it easier and more effective.

There are very few guys out there today creating such amazing close-up magic that is both collectable and magical. Magic Wagon build in small runs, so get one now before they are gone.

More Knives and More Colors

This is the perfect kit if you want to get serious about doing any color changing knife routines. Combining Ascanio’s World of Knives with Joe Mogar’s beautiful color changing knives and mini-knife finale is a stroke of genius!

Highly recommended for all Close-up magicians out there.

Perfection.

I’ve always liked the old Duck Bucket illusion, but have never found the justification for a large stage model – even the beautiful Owen’s one. However, when I saw this beautiful creation from Mark Teufel I knew I had to have it.

It is perfectly made and the illusion could not be more realistic – it really looks like an empty mini-bucket even right up close. I realize there are other ways to produce a deck of cards but it is hard to imagine a more classy and collectible prop to do so.

As with all of Mark’s rare magic items this is highly recommended if you can find one.

Another Wellington Marvel

I can’t think of any item that comes from Wellington that is not amazing. This is one of the sleepers that seem to come up very rarely. I was on a list forever for this and was unable to get one directly from Bill. Finally I tracked one down from a private seller and I was very happy I did.

It is a very convincing illusion and all of the kinks of the previous methods have been ironed out – as is a trademark of Wellington.

Highly Recommended for performers who want to amaze.

Fantastic Collection of Magic

If you’re anything like me, you thoroughly enjoyed Jim Steinmeyer’s series "Conjuring" that appeared in Magic Magazine several years ago. It brought new ideas to the table and put a modern spin on some old classics. Beautiful, motivated presentations and patter that only Steinmeyer could create help bring these effects to life.

Finally, the complete collection of all the "Conjuring" articles, reformatted and hardbound, along with a few bonus routines. What a fantastic book – I can’t say anymore. Worth every cent.

Anverdi would be proud!

For many years Tony Anverdi’s Mental Die was the pinnacle of this type of effect. Since then there have been many versions – some good and some not so good. Easily the best from a collector’s standpoint would be Labco’s Mental Dice, and from a performers standpoint Craig Filicetti’s Multi-Dimensional is clearly the stand out effect.

However, if you were looking for the best Mental Die available today, in the tradition of Anverdi, then you should look no further than this new item from Magic Wagon. This is a truly beautiful item that looks amazing and uses a crystal clear die to rule out any trickery. It can be examined before, during and after and freely handled throughout the performance.

The system is all remote controlled with visual or vibration notifications and works every single time. You never need to touch it or look at it and yet you can always tell what number is facing upwards.

This is a real beauty and highly recommended for Magic Collector’s everywhere!

Breathtaking!

Wow! Dave Powell has pulled out all of the stops on this beauty. It looks amazing and is very solidly built – you don’t get the sense if you look at it the wrong way it will break. All the mechanics are very precise and I’m sure this will last for many years to come.

The cards appear very fast and when done with a cascade of other cards from the deck looks quite incredible. The set-up is simple and works precisely the way it should.

I’ve been admiring Dave’s work for a few years now, but this truly is the jewel of his collection. Simply Breathtaking!

Highly Recommended for Collector’s and Performers everywhere and worth every penny!

Above Suspicion

Thanks for cluing me into this one, Andy. This is a great utility table that can be used throughout the show, all the while concealing a show-stopping effect. It’s so functional, and so attractive, that it is simply above suspicion.

There are many ways to play the fall-apart feature – comedy, misdirection, mentalism, seance – this is no one-trick pony. It’s the type of prop that everybody should have, but almost nobody does.

One last comment – Jos at Mephisto Magic builds shipping crates that look like furniture, and shipping from Belgium was surprisingly inexpensive and took only 4 days. Can I give this six stars?
