Review by Andy Martin for Samurai Sword Penetration by George Murray, Nielsen Magic
5 out of 5
A sword is pushed through the center of a tube and a solid ball is dropped in and then found to be threaded directly on the sword. Long unavailable this beautiful, rare and unusual prop includes a precision made gimmick that makes the magic happen.
Review by Andy Martin for Crazy Years by Tango Magic
5 out of 5
This is one of my favorite ideas from Tango Magic: the simple transpostion of one date for another on two signed coins. It looks amazing, but it is simple to do with the cleverly gimmicked coins.
Review by Andy Martin for Plop Up by Rings ‘N Things Magic Co.
5 out of 5
I’ve always liked this effect designed by John Snider and put out back in 1976 by the Original Rings ‘N Things. This version is better than the other similar effects such as Clarence Miller’s Non-Rising Card because it uses a 100% clear perspex houlette rather than an opaque one.
Review by Andy Martin for Victorian Psychic Spirit Slates by Dave Powell
5 out of 5
This is Dave Powell’s latest spirit slate which is essentially a larger and better quality version of the old CW effect the Slates of Soloman (though I believe there were other versions before it too). This set of spirit slates works without any flap or outside gimmick. It is ingeniously designed with the mechanism actually inside the slate.
Review by Andy Martin for Stage Size Enchanted Ring by Dave Powell
5 out of 5
Just when you think you’ve seen all the variations of Anverdi’s amazing Enchanted Ring, including an almost perfect one from Dave Powell himself, along comes Dave again to create a much large stage version (which could equally be performed close-up) which is really flawless. Really works smoothly and everything can be minutely examined too. Great job Dave!
Review by Andy Martin for Zoo Pizza by Bill Weldon
5 out of 5
What a wonderful and colorful children’s routine that you just don’t see the like of today. Based on an original Louis Histed idea this wonderful routine comes from Bill Weldon. The magician explains how a silk is vanished during a practice session and after searching high and low he is unable to find it. So tells of how he ate a midnight pizza which results in a crazy dream which he goes on to illustrate. From a pizza box he removes a stage filling array of colorful animals and finally magically recovers the missing scarf. Apart from all the wonderful colorful characters there is also a Chinese Compass part to the routine which is always entertaining.
Review by Daniel D for ESP Miracle (ESP-Mirakel) by Magiro, Howard Schwarzman
5 out of 5
This was invented by Matthias “Magiro” Weißl, not Lubor Fiedler as some have suggested. Werner “Werry” Geissler built the original prototype. This later version was imported by Howard Schwarzman.
The spectator places the pentagon in the stand and merely thinks of their symbol. Then it is placed back into the case and given to the magician. The performer instantly knows the selection. Everything is examinable, it’s literally that clean and brilliant.
Review by Andy Martin for Chinka Chink by Eddy Taytelbaum
5 out of 5
I’ve only owned a few Eddy Taytelbaum items but there is no doubt this Chinka-Chink set is easily the finest available. What a beauty it is to behold and after Eddy’s Mummy this is my favorite Taytelbaum effect that I own. The bright colors and smooth edges just make for a beautiful presentation.
Review by Andy Martin for Improved Vanishing Card Box by Mel Babcock
5 out of 5
What a beauty this is from the young Mel Babcock, a mere slip of a lad at 84! These are hot off the press and it is easily my favorite vanishing deck effect. Better than the Robert Jackson one it was based upon and the Bob Kline/Woodmagic Studio CBI.
Not only is the method perfect the box looks amazing!
