Clock of San Marco’s Square by John Good, Collectors’ Workshop

Twenty years since I first performed this effect I still love it!  Better than any electronic version (even this beauty from Urs Auckenthaler), it is quiet and very reliable and really looks eerie.   I created a quick demo video so you could see the action up close with no sounds to cover the motion – …

You Must Have Been Drinking II by Jerry Somerdin

An original idea from Jerry Somerdin: You must have been drinking c. 1987. _EF A packet of four face-up cards is shown, one at a time, and displayed in a fan and face up, and finally all the tens are face up again. The spectator is now asked the color of the backs of the …

Junior Walking Knot by Pavel

_EF  Pavel has done it again, and worked out  a super comedy sequence using ropes. Two effects in one. Here’s what the audience sees. This close-up version of Pavel’s old stage item uses six feel of rope only. The effect can be performed anywhere and close-up near to the audience. It ‘s also self-contained. Magician …

The Clausen Chips by Per Clausen, Mark Leveridge

The Clausen Chips were first released in 1987 with two effects supplied, although a third was very soon added. Then in 1988 the number was increased to six with the appearance of a 23 page booklet. Finally in 1995 a larger set of instructions was included with 33 pages and 14 effects featuring all of …

Mini Squeeze Away Block by Willi Wessel, Ed Massey

Willi liked beautifully made props, especially wooden ones and so he started to collect some. From time to time he made a few for himself, mostly miniature versions of tricks he had purchased from dealers, because he wanted to perform them close-up at the table.

Sometimes he had to alter the methods so that they would work in the close-up situation, which often led Willi to creating new ideas.  Around this time Willi had the chance to work together with Thomas Pohle in his workshop in Berlin. They both had their own product line.

Coin-Fusion by Optical Oddities

This is a unique little box from Optical Oddities Mfg. Co. released c. 1987.  I believe Optical Oddities was Dave Pavlov’s company in Las Vegas that was formed c. 1981. This box is different from anything else I have seen.  The effect on the audience is similar to what can be be achieved by a …

Simon’s Quest by Collectors’ Workshop

Here is another rare Collectors’ Workshop item from the early days of Rich and Nick.  When you first get this you may not be sure about it, but if you read the brief instructions and try it out, I’m sure you will love it.  It is a great gimmick and a clever easy to do …

Tonte by Ton Onosaka

_EF Three cards are shown: two black tens, and a jack of spades. The spectator is asked to “find the picture card,” but that’s not possible, for now the performer holds three black tens- the jack is found inside the magician’s pocket! The game is repeated with the four-card set. Again, the spectator is unable …

Osterlind Stainless Steel Blindfold by Richard Osterlind

_EF After almost three decades, the Osterlind Stainless Steel Blindfold gets a facelift! The Osterlind Stainless Steel Blindfold has been on the market since November, 1987. Its success has been so overwhelming that thousands of top professionals now feature it in their acts. It has, in fact, become so much of a classic prop that …

Hong Kong Paddle by Willi Wessel

Another rare and collectible item from 1987 by the great German craftsman Willi Wessel.  Unlike his fellow countryman, Thomas Pohle, Willi has retired from creating magic some years ago, so his magic is getting harder and harder to find.  This is one of his best items. What I like about Willi’s routines is that he extracts …
