What a clever penetration effect this is from that talented duo of: Joe Long and Paul Lembo. This prop is based on an item originally created by the German Magic historian, performer, and collector, Rüdiger Deutsch (1941 – 2015).
When I received this prop I really liked the method but had some trouble with the handling and an inconsistency with how it was presented. So I changed the handling a little and it not only removed the inconsistency but also made it simpler to perform, even for formal close-up.
This effect can’t be done super close-up. But with the new handling it can be done for formal close-up where you have three or so feet between you and the audience and without a bright spotlight shining on the prop. The prop comes with a special stand that is optional to use with my new handling. Hopefully all will become clear when I get my Speed Demo live soon.
It is incredibly effective and I think you will really enjoy this. Great job Joe and Paul for bringing this clever idea to life 🙂
Effect: (from Joe Long) This brand new Limited Edition is based on a very rare (most likely unique) block effect created by the late Rüdiger Deutsch. When I obtained it, I checked with all the Rüdiger collectors I know – and no one had ever seen another.
Unfortunately, the seller didn’t know how it worked – but luckily for me – our friend Paul Lembo is a genius and figured it out. The method is likewise unique. I’m not familiar with any other block penetration that works like this one. And because our goal at Limited Edition Magic has always been to offer unique and hard to find apparatus that isn’t available anywhere else, we decided to offer a few.
A beautifully decorated (Egyptian themed) upright cabinet is shown, along with a heavy block with holes allowing a rod to pass through, and two decorative wands. The cabinet is shown empty.
The cabinet is held horizontally and the block is slid inside so that the wand can be lined up to lock it in place. The wand locks the block in place and the cabinet is once again turned upright. With the block clearly seen and locked by the wand at the top.
The second wand is put through the holes in the bottom section of the cabinet. The audience sees into the empty cabinet – and they see the block locked in place at the top. Despite how fair everything appears – the die visibly penetrates the wand holding it – and drops down – also penetrating the bottom wand which now locks it in place.
The cabinet is lifted – carrying the block now impaled on the lower wand with it. The wand is removed and block drops out the bottom of the cabinet and is shown cleanly all around.
Features:
Please note that this is best performed in formal close-up or parlor setting. The audience need to be a few feet away for best effect.
If you collect unusual block penetrations – this is one you should consider. I think you’ll appreciate the clever design.
