The Mystery of The Mayan Mummies (Deluxe) by Stan Lobenstern

This is good version of this classic effect by Karl Edler. Karl created the very first version of this Three Mummies effect c. 1902. Karl created many versions and styles of The Three Mummies, and although it is a mentalism effect itself, it was an early forerunner to the Wandering Mummy effect that was invented in the 1950’s. The problem with any effect where just three outcomes are possible is that it is not that amazing to the spectator.  Big whoop you guessed which Mummy is in the case.  But you have a 1 in 3 chance anyway.  However, if you add something extra it can make the effect more of a miracle.  So I added the “Deluxe” feature of the Top Color Force to allow for a second phase which really takes it to the miracle level … (I hope) 🙂

You’ll also notice that I have removed the extra colors for the Top Color Force just to make the spinning top clearer and more sure fire if it is slightly off.

Effect:  (Deluxe Version) Two spectators are chosen and the first spectator turns their back and secretly chooses any mummy to place in the coffin (and pockets the other two so that no one knows what is in the coffin). When the spectator turns around they place the coffin on the table, and it is not touched by the performer.

The performed hands a spinning top to the spectator (that has been in view all along) and the second spectator spins the colored top.  It spins and spins and when it stops the color that it stops on is the predicted color (say Red) and the first spectator now opens up the box and inside is the matching mummy.

Remember:

• Any Mummy can be chosen.
• The performer never touches the mummies or the coffin.
• The Second Spectator has no clue which mummy was chosen.
• The effect has a different outcome every time.
• There is no reset, with nothing added or taken away.

Now that is a miracle 🙂

Effect: (Original Version)  Mummy dearest, what a trick! A finely crafted bit of close-up mentalism that will fool the best of them! Show a small mahogany box. It is about 4″ long, and made to look like an Egyptian Sarcophagus. Also show three small “‘mummies.” Each one is made of wood, and each is a different color. One red, one yellow, and one blue. While your back is turned, a spectator is asked to open the “sarcophagus” and place one of the three mummies inside. The other two are placed in his pocket.

You turn back to face the audience, and using your incredible mental powers, correctly name the chosen “mummy.” And, you are 100% correct each time, and it is immediately repeatable! The effect is very powerful, the method is extremely clever. The Mayan Mummies use no threads, hairs, wax, wires, chewing gum, magnets, or the like. You can name the selected “mummy” in two seconds flat, and never need to touch the sarcophagus.
