SBL Vampire (Limited Edition) by RNT II, Doug Bennett(c. 2007) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)
Doug Bennett created his Vampire paddle effect c. 1983 and it was marketed by Sterling Magic as VAMPIRE!. This version from RNT II took the basic idea and really amped up the props with aged/distressed finish on both the casket and the Vanhelsing box as they refer to it. The finish is just perfect, not overkilled or shoddy looking. The gold leafing is a beautiful touch as well as the burned prayer within the casket itself.
RNT II include the original Doug Bennett routine and while the original routine only deals with 1 paddle, the rest is left up to the performers imagination, since the RNT set comes with three paddles. The handling of the paddles are perfect, right length, right thickness, not too slick and not to rough, just perfect. The cross is particularly well designed thanks to the wood (Buckeye Burl) used and it looks and handles perfectly.
The basic effect is: It’s a vampire paddle trick. You show a small coffin that is blank on both sides. Then with a magic pass, the vampire Baron Latos (aka Dracula) appears. Then he appears on both sides of the coffin. Everyone knows that vampires don’t cast a reflection, so a mirror is brought out and the coffin is passed over, and lo and behold there is no reflection of him. Then a stake is stabbed through the heart, and the vampire vanishes.
This was only available for a short time from RNT II, and now it is no longer available from them. Apparently, the rights to the routine are now owned by Raincloud Magic and you can purchase their version here.
