Necklace of Sheba (Beads of Prussia) by A&B Magic Products

(c. 1947) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

This effect dates back to 1827. After being unseen for some decades The Great Carmo reintroduced it in the UK c. 1932 and it is still often referred to as the Carmo Beads in the UK.  The rights to Carmo’s was purchased by Davenport’s from The Great Carmo c. 1938 and they marketed it at The Great Carmo Bead Mystery.  This did not stop U.F. Grant releasing it as The Arabian Bead Mystery c. 1939 and it became a pet effect of Jay Marshall. John Fedko re-titled it as The Beads of Prussia and that is the current term in the USA.

This version was made by A&B Magic – The “A” is Alexander Great and prior to A&B magic he worked for Abbott’s and Tannen’s.

Effect: This is a visual effect, which can also be presented to an interesting story line. The performer displays several large loose beads, which can be examined. These are dropped one at a time into a clear cylinder, which can also be examined. Performer makes a magic pass, and tosses the beads out of the tube, and they are found to be strung together in a necklace.

A possible story line for a general show would go as follows. These were a magic necklace, belonging to a beautiful princess, and as long as she wore the necklace, she was the most beautiful princess in the world. Then a wicked witch broke the necklace, and the princess started to wither away. Many people tried to put the necklace together, but could not do so. Then you “the handsome magician” came along, and magically restored the necklace, and with it the princess’s beauty…

The Enchanted Necklace is a extremely clever mechanical effect, easy to perform, and comes to you complete with the large colored beads, clear perspex tube, and full working instructions.

    Made by a master craftsman…

This apparatus was made by Alexander Great–the "A" in A&B Magic–circa early 1970’s.

Prior to A&B Magic he worked for Abbott’s, sold through the old Tannen’s, etc. I believe Kenna Thompson wound-up with Alex’ remaining inventory.

His products were innovative and made very well with an eye to being used in actual performance as opposed to being set on a shelf.

What sets this particular apparatus apart from others of similar appearance is the quality and design of the MASTER BEAD.

This one is very durable and 100% reliable.
