This photo is of the third generation of this effect invented by Haenchen c. 1956; the effect first saw the light of day c. 1931.
Effect: The props consist of a beautiful frame, a Fire Box and some plates. A plate is removed from the display frame and broken into bits which are tossed into the Fire Box. A match is lit and tossed into the box which causes the plate pieces to vanish, except for one small piece. The performer then snaps his fingers and the plate visibly reappears back in the display frame, sans the missing piece which matches perfectly.

MIKE KETCHAM –
GREAT TRICK BUT THE MAGICIAN MUST HAVE A GENEROUS SUPPLY OF MATCHING PLATES BECAUSE YOU DESTROY A PLATE WITH EVERY PRESENTATION. I OBTAINED A LARGE SUPPLY OF MATCHING PLATES @ GOODWILL
