Another perfectly crafted item from Magic Wagon which looks great and is relatively easy to do if a little fiddley. As far as an effect goes you can tell a lot but by how animated the vidoes are. This is the second effect in a row where Madison has not even bothered to speak … that pretty much tells you what he thinks of it … 🙂

I think the last two items for 2022 were not so great after a very strong year. Maybe it makes more sense to produce one a quarter and focus on quality effects instead of just well made boxes? Just a thought – Magic Wagon produce amazing items but they do need to entertain the audience too, so don’t forget the routines.

Review by Andy Martin for Magiro's Perfect Switch Case by Limited Edition Magic

Review by Andy Martin for Magiro's Perfect Switch Case by Limited Edition Magic
5 out of 5

This clever deck switch case was originally invented by Magiro and released by Eckhard Boettcher c. 1993 as “Kartenspiel Austauschkassette” (see final photo.).  This updated and improved version from the dynamic duo of Joe Long and Paul Lembo for their Limited Edition Magic line is a truly beautiful version and is my new favorite deck switch.  Previously I thought Heirloom Workbench’s Switch was the go-to high-end device, but that has all changed with this beauty.

A few points to notice:

  • It works completely differently from any other deck switch device I have seen, thanks to the brilliant mind of Magiro  and impressive construction of Paul Lembo, and you no longer have to turn the whole box over.
  • It looks like one of those high-end executive organizers and will look great in your office, magic den, living room, or in your local pub such as The Porcupine.
  • You can place the case in front of the spectator at the beginning of the effect and perform the switch and at no time do you need to actually touch the cards, the spectator is free to remove them from the box themselves (as you hold the case in your hand and ask them to pull the tab and remove the deck).
  • It can be performed almost silently right in front of them (I added a thin extra strip of felt to help here, but it can be achieved with the right touch without it).
  • Did I mention it looks great in The Porcupine 🙂

A perfect utility item that I know you will love.  Thanks to Joe and Paul for continuing to track down these cool items from yesteryear and bring them up to date for a select few, this is wonderful addition to your range 🙂

Below is my routine which also makes use of the wonderful Thought Explosion Wallet.

This is a great wallet invented by Billy McComb, released by Supreme Magic and manufactured by Roy Roth.  It was basically re-invented by Collectors’ Workshop as Any Card To Wallet about 15 years later, but this is the original.

This wallet is a perfect tool to create a complete miracle with Magiro’s Perfect Switch Case.

This was first released by Supreme Magic c. 1967 and although the wallet is quite simple it is a very useful device that can be used for many different effects when a switch, vanish, appearance of a card, note, billet are required.

The routine I have shown was inspired by one give in the instructions, but you could easily make up your own routines too. I included two new decks of Jerry’s Nuggets to really class it up, but any other decks could be used too.

Review by Andy Martin for Mental Ropes (Natural Wood) by Louis Gaynor, Davenport’s, Al Glennan

According to Betty Davenport and Stevens Magic this effect was invented by Al Glennan c. 2001 and sold exclusively by Davenport’s until 2019 when the USA rights were granted by Betty Davenport to Stevens Magic to produce their own version. However, what appears to be the exact same effect and method was featured in Supreme Magic’s Magigram (May 1989, pg 590) also called Mental Ropes and invented by Jack Bridwell.  In fact, according to a Linking Ring report (August, 2001, pg 166-168) Jack invented it in the late 1970’s for Supreme.

It a very easy effect to do and has quite a surprising outcome because everything appears so above board all the way up until the last rope is chosen. Nothing is added or taken away and there are no tricky moves or difficult set-ups.

Louis Gaynor has created this perfectly. The only thing I would change is use replace the standard black and white wand with a nicer wooden one (Stevens Magic clearly could have done this but the price would have gone up a lot and they really are releasing this at an amazing price.) The other performance tip I have is to place an elastic around the wand under the bottom of the box to lock the wand in so that it doesn’t move when you are pulling out the ropes it makes for a much smoother operation.

I fell in love with the Art of Magic over 40 years ago and it has been a wonderful journey ever since . When I came across Martin’s Magic Website and started to see so many amazing creations from all around the world that I have never seen before , it just brought me back to when I was a kid seeing Magic for the first time

As with anything in life , we are constantly learning , developing , creating and striving to be the best we can. The Collections both old and new presented at Martin’s Magic show me all of those and that anything is possible… especially in the World of Magic. They bring me great joy and happiness when needed quite often these days so it seems

Recently I reached out asking for help with an effect that a good friend of mine came across that we were not familiar with . Mr. Martin was extremely helpful and able to answer all our questions in which we are so grateful

A beautiful website full of History and Magical wonder … keep up the good work Andy !

Regards,
Matt
