This next item is Kent’s version of Box Clever which is itself based upon Marurice Fogel’s Second Spot. The props look great and as I’m starting to find out surprisingly solid and intricate!
This next item has been produced by many craftsmen, but this is the first time I’ve seen it come with a large and small version of the frame. One of the many benefits of 3D Printing is that once you have the template created adding an extra feature is “just” a matter of letting the printer go for a little longer!
This next item is Kent’s version of another popular item that has been created by Marvillo, Rob Bromley, Alan Warner, Colin Rose, and many others. But this is the first one I have seen with a neat little stand that neatly holds the wand, tower and block. The power of 3D printing strikes again!
Review by Andy Martin for 4 Square by 3D Magic Works
5 out of 5
So this is the first of at least twenty new effects from Kent Bergmann and his amazing new line: 3D Magic Works. Kent fired up his new business late last year and based on my first impressions and all of these wonderful testimonials I’m in for a wild ride!
This first item happens to be one of my favorite effects based on Box Office from T.A. Waters. This is the perfect size too for walk-around with a simple and fast reset so if you were looking to slap in a neat mentalism effect into your bag with some interesting and modern looking props, now you have it!
Review by Andy Martin for Cerberus with DVD by Todd Lassen, David Neighbors
5 out of 5
I feel like Gollum with “my precious”! From time to time I’ll take these coins out just to marvel at them.
I always know when I’m in the presence of greatness, when no matter how hard I try my photos just never do justice to the beauty of the effect. This set of coins created by the artist and master craftsman, Todd Lassen, in conjunction with his good friend David Neighbors is truly a revelation.
The gimmick, if that word can be applied here, is just awe inspiring. I know I’ll never get close to doing the amazing routines put together by David Neighbors (how does he think of so many ways to use the same set of coins?) but one day I’ll try.
Knowing my addiction for precisely these types of perfect objects I’m glad I’m not on a first name basis with Todd because I could easily see $10,000 going straight out of the window. After studying these coins there is no doubt that Todd Lassen produces, by far, the most unique and most beautiful gimmicked coins in the world.
Review by Andy Martin for Box Ninety-Eight by Handcrafted Miracles
5 out of 5
Finally a small box that lives up to the hype! This is a wonderful utility item and what I really love is how Dan Frecks, the creator of this wonderful box, did the research to create a box that was the least interesting to spectators so that although they can freely handle and examine it they move on quickly enough. Who knew all those beautiful boxes from Magic Wagon are actually a bad thing when it comes to audience attention? Dan even suggests scuffing up the box more – the more ratty looking the box the less suspicious it is to the spectator. Anyway the box still looks great but the mechanism and the loads are perfect. Really smooth operation. These are hard to find at the moment so grab one when you can!
And if you’re wondering where the name comes from? They tried 97 prototypes before they ended up on this final one!
Review by Andy Martin for Under Wraps by Mark Mason
5 out of 5
I’ve had this one in my “incoming box” for about a year and frankly am disappointed I didn’t get to it sooner. What a wonderful gimmick and effect. Mark Mason really delivers the goods when it comes to interesting, usable and unique card effects. This really is a perfect gimmick which produces an amazing transformation on a non-gimmicked card box. I love it!
Like the KFC Coin this to me is a very unique idea which Ted Bogusta is just scratching the possibilities of the method. From a clearly different set of State quarters a spectator can freely choose anyone only to find a prediction that matches in the envelope. There is only one prediction in the envelope and your hands are empty before and after the reveal. A very clever idea which I’m sure will be copied!
Review by Andy Martin for Block Buster by Tony D'Amico
5 out of 5
Mark Mason has a knack for creating (and finding creators of) really clever card gimmicks and this bad boy has to be one of his best. From the mind and hands of Tony D’Amico this is another item that has been in my “incoming box” for a year. This effect has it all – the incredibly clean (and easy to do) vanish of a signed coin right in front of their noses. The spectator then cuts the deck and they cut at the signed coin that has found its way right next to the spectator’s signed card.
Review by Andy Martin for Hydro Die (Entmaterialisierung) by Magiro
5 out of 5
This is still one of the very best Magiro items, and in fact one of the most amazing close-up illusions period. This version was distributed by Howard Schwarzman in 1984, and for all the many versions of Hydro Die, this is often considered the definitive version. What makes this version so effective is because it is so stripped down – unlike later versions by Magic Wagon and Richard Gerlitz – there is nowhere for the die to hide. It just vanishes into thin air! Beautiful effect and getting hard to find these days.
