Ring and Post Puzzle by Mel Babcock(c. 1995) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)
Effect: This is not really a magic trick. It is a very good puzzle. You have a post which is attached to a base. There is a metal ring over the post. The post has a large slot near the top through which runs a length of cord. On each side of the post there is a large wooden bead which the cord also passes through. On each end of the cord there is a large wooden square which is sealed onto each end. These cannot come off the cord, and they are larger than the diameter of the ring. The object is to remove the ring completely from the post, cord and all. Nothing is gimmicked. The ring really can be removed. When you know how, it may be done in less than 10 seconds.
