Twister by Bob Swadling

(c. 1966) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Effect: A pack of cards is ribbon-spread across the table … Audience can see … without YOU having to say so … that each card is separate … A card is freely chosen (no force), noted and returned to the pack, which is then covered with a hat (paper napkin or similar covering, for impromptu occasion) … You now show “the marvelous invisible thread … so fine, it cannot be seen with the human eye”… YOU can have a lot of fun with this …“dropping” … trying to “find” it, etc …

The spectator is asked to “pull gently on the invisible thread” … but after the fun comes the mystery … for … when the hat is lifted, it is seen that the pack has cut itself to the freely chosen card! The cards are spread out again and another card is chosen freely… But this time you suggest, the audience would probably like to actually see what happens… So this time … without any covering whatsoever, the pack visibly twists itself round into a cross-cut, revealing the chosen card! ! A third card is freely chosen, etc…, as before but this time, the pack is put on the spectator’s hand and visibly cuts itself to the chosen card, right under their very nose!

Without any hesitation, the cards are now fully ribbon-spread across the table showing that every card is separate! Entirely self-contained … No threads … No sleights … You can do this within minutes of receipt … without doubt, the finest card novelty in years… Visible magic at its best… Forget anything you may have seen or heard, with a similar description … Twister is different … quite frankly, it starts where the others leave off!
