The 4 Card Trick by Larry West, Emerson and West

(c. 1973) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Nine pages of instructions and just two counts (Elmsley and Jordan) so getting close to my level 🙂

Unfortunately the cards for this effect have not held up so if you wanted to perform this effect you would need to make up your own cards.

Effect: THE FOUR CARD TRICK by Larry West uses NUMBERED cards not only to be different, but so they’re very easy to identify during four distinct changes. Here they are:

1. The magician removes four cards from a wallet; they’re marked 1, 2, 3, 4 in big red numbers. Placing them face up in numerical order, he has a spectator pick a number. Then turning them face down he shows that the selected card has a blue back; the others are red. Then one by one this is repeated till ALL have blue backs!

2. Now a number is chosen and the back of that card turns back to red. The performer removes four more numbered cards (1, 2, 3, 4) from the wallet and shows they are red backed except for one-the same number card as the spectator’s!

3. The magician and spectator each take a set, mix them, and find that whatever order the spectator’s are in, the magician’s matches them!

4. For a smashing climax the performer takes both packets together face down saying, “All we use is eight cards.” He deals them face up and they are now numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!! It’s not just a trick, it is a whole routine, and the instructions are complete in each detail.

Larry West has done it again.
