In 1939 the Englishman Harry Leat invented what became one of the best and most enduring children’s effect of all time: Run Rabbit Run. Like the Die Box, with which it bears some obvious similarities, it has inspired craftsmen and dealers ever since.
This is an adorable version from Tannen’s Enchanted Woodshop and they created a very good version, with all standard features and very cute bunnies.
Effect: Another great effect for all you kid performers. This is one of the items that has stood the test of time, and will surely be one of the feature tricks in your show. And like Forgetful Joey … Run Rabbit Run is all hand painted. The rabbits are the cutest ever, almost like out of carton strip. Works like a charm with many new features, such as magnets holding the doors shut when you are interacting with the kids.

Andy is right; Run Rabbit Run is a classic kids’ show effect guaranteed to delight. I owned a mid-80s MAK version which was very well made. Operation was smooth as was the kicker “running” and “peek” moments. This is a great five-minute effect that gets children howling, pointing, and laughing. The ending, especially when designed to be at the magi’s expense, is a winner. The kids were right all along seeing what the performer could not. In essence, they are the heroes. Lots of lousy knock-offs were developed including branded cartoon characters. The rascally rabbit is the best. Try to buy the very best one and make the kids go crazy.
