Test Tube Bunny by Gene Elmo

(c. 1979) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

What a wonderful effect from Gene Elmo and the routine designed by David Ginn and published in M.U.M. (October 1981) is priceless. Although Test Tube Bunny is basically a version of of U.F. Grants Crystal Silk Cylinder the design and routine take it to the next level for sure.

Like most collectors (and performers for that matter) I don’t have a real bunny but I found the closest cuddly bunny I could find that matches the picture on the silk.  If you look at the photo closely it is almost the spitting image of the picture on the silk.  It is these attentions to detail that make all the difference and you know we have your back in The Porcupine 🙂

Notice: This does not come with the original instructions but I have included the full routine from David Ginn and a copy of Grants’ instructions for Crystal Silk Cylinder.

Effect: Rabbit productions that will hold a really good-size bunny are few and far between. Well, Test Tube Bunny is wonderfully entertaining AND it will hold a large rabbit!

Bring out your “rabbit shower.” It’s a large (14″ tall, 6″ across) clear plexiglass cylinder standing on a shiny silver base. Next, show your rabbit. Actually, it’s a really cute picture of your rabbit printed on a 24″ red cloth. Time for your rabbit to take his daily shower. But,he doesn’t like to shower in front of everyone. So, you put the bunny cloth in the clear cylinder, then slide a cover, open at both ends, over the cylinder. The cover is really handsome, nicely decorated with a cut-out drawing of a rabbit. Reach into the top of the tube and bring out the red cloth. But, what’s this? The picture of the rabbit is gone from the cloth!

When you remove the cover, there’s a REAL LIVE BUNNY!! (or you could use a Stuffed Bunny of course).

BUNNY!! (or you could use a Spring Bunny!) TEST TUBE BUNNY is incredibly well-made. The plexiglass tube is made of a heavy-weight plastic, so it will really hold up. The entire prop is very classy! TEST TUBE BUNNY comes complete, ready to work, with full instructions. And,David Ginn has a fine routine using TEST TUBE BUNNY in his book: School Show Presentations.
